South Africa Online Radio
Radio.org.za provides access to over 250 radio stations from all across South Africa, available for free live streaming. Stations are organized by city and genre, including news, gospel, kwaito, house, talk radio, Afrikaans music, sports, and more. The platform is user-friendly and works smoothly on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
Each radio station page includes a live stream, updated logo, and station information. Our dynamic ranking system automatically adjusts based on listener activity — the more a station is listened to, the higher it appears in the catalog. Rankings are updated based on the last 7 days of listener data.
We use advanced stream processing to extract metadata in real time. This allows us to create live playlists and top song charts for each station. If metadata is not available, users can use our mobile app with built-in music recognition (similar to Shazam) to identify songs being played.
About Radio Broadcasting in South Africa
Radio is one of the most important and accessible forms of media in South Africa, with a long and influential history. Broadcasting began in the 1920s, and the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) was established in 1936. Today, SABC operates multiple public radio stations in all 11 official languages.
The country has a highly diverse radio landscape, including public, commercial, community, and internet radio. Major networks include Metro FM, 5FM, Ukhozi FM, Radio 702, Jacaranda FM, and many others. Radio content ranges from music and entertainment to news, education, and public service programming.
Radio reaches millions of South Africans daily and plays a critical role in both urban and rural communities, where it remains the most widely used and trusted source of information and entertainment.
