Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. How can I add or update a radio station?
You can add a new station or update existing station information using the form below:
    https://radio.org.za/index.php?do=feedback
  2. Why does the radio station stop playing after a few minutes?
If the radio station uses an HTTP stream, we play it through our custom script. This method has technical limitations and can only play for about 3–5 minutes continuously. After that, the stream needs to be restarted manually.
To avoid this issue, stations should use HTTPS streams instead.
This problem does not occur in our mobile application.
  3. How is the radio station ranking calculated?
The ranking is based on a simple formula: the more listeners a station has, the higher it will appear in the catalog. However, rankings are based on data from the past 7 days. If a station loses listeners, it will gradually move down in the list.
  4. How is the top songs list generated for each station?
We track how many times each song is played on a station. The more often a song is played, the higher it ranks. This method helps highlight the most current and frequently played hits.
  5. Why do some stations not have playlists?
Not all radio stations provide metadata with song information. Our system tries to extract this data from the stream, but if it’s unavailable, a playlist cannot be generated. However, most stations do include metadata, so playlists are available for many of them.
